High strength natural peppermint oil distilled from mint.
Peppermint has a long tradition of use as a digestive aid. The volatile oils contained in peppermint, particularly menthol, are the key active ingredients although the other constituents may also contribute to the plant's renowned therapeutic effects. Lamberts® Peppermint Oil capsules contain 100mg of pure natural peppermint oil, a high strength extract distilled from the leaves of this plant. These capsules preserve the volatile oils in a way that is not possible with mint sweets and mint teas. In fact, the amount of mint in each capsule is up to 12 times stronger than even the hottest mint sweets.
Much of the research and usage has tended to focus on peppermint oil's role in the management of symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS is caused when the gastro-intestinal tract behaves abnormally. The muscles of the gut become hypersensitive, leading to fierce contractions, which can be painful. Studies have shown that Peppermint oil can calm these contractions for some individuals. This natural product is not a cure, but we have plenty of anecdotal reports that it is a useful supplement for many people who use it. However, the only way to know if it will help for any one patient is to trial it. In some countries, mint tea is regularly served after a meal, and in the same way we recommend that one of these capsules is swallowed after each large meal.
